1. Information We Collect

1.1 What We Do NOT Collect

• We do not read or store the content of your journal entries on our servers. The only exception is the text of an entry you consent to have analysed, which passes through our server on its way to OpenAI and is not kept there (see section 5).
• We do not ask you to create an account. There is no login screen, no password and no email, so we do not collect your name, email or phone number. The only exception is a name you type yourself for the app's greeting, which you can change or clear at any time.
• There is no cloud sync. We keep no copy of your journal, your voice recordings or your emotion analyses on our servers.
• We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

1.2 Automatically Collected Information

• Device type and operating system version
• App version
• Anonymous usage analytics (screens visited, feature usage)
• Crash reports and performance metrics
• Advertising identifier (IDFA on iOS, Advertising ID on Android), used only with your consent to measure marketing campaigns

1.3 Storage on Your Device

Journal entries, voice recordings and emotion analysis results are stored on your device, in the app's own database and private folders, behind your phone's own device encryption. There is no cloud sync, so none of it is copied to our servers.

1.4 Anonymous Session

The app does not ask you to create an account. So that we can check whether your subscription is active and store the Inner Landscapes generated for you, an anonymous identifier is created for your installation on our backend (Supabase). It is not linked to your name, email or phone number, and your journal entries are never attached to it. If you type a name for the app's greeting, that name is stored against this identifier; leaving the field empty removes it. Deleting your data from Settings destroys the identifier and everything stored against it.

2. Advertising & Attribution

Kokoro Nikki does not display third-party ads inside the app. To understand which marketing campaigns introduce new people to Kokoro Nikki (for example, ads on Meta/Facebook and Instagram), we use AppsFlyer, a mobile measurement partner, and may receive attribution data from advertising networks such as Meta. This measurement relies on device identifiers and, on iOS, the advertising identifier (IDFA) — but only after you grant permission through Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) prompt. If you decline, the app works exactly the same and no advertising identifier is collected. On Android, you can opt out via 'Opt out of Ads Personalization' in your device settings.

3. How We Use Information

• To provide and improve the app experience
• To analyse the emotion of the entries you consent to send for analysis
• To generate personalized insights and visualizations
• To measure the effectiveness of our marketing campaigns (only with your consent)
• To diagnose technical issues and improve stability

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited data with the partners below — anonymized and aggregated where possible, and, only with your consent, advertising identifiers used to measure our marketing campaigns:

• Supabase (backend hosting: the anonymous identifier, your subscription status and the Inner Landscape images generated for you)
• OpenAI (emotional analysis of the entries you consent to send, and generation of Inner Landscape images — see section 5)
• Apple and Google (speech recognition, when your phone's built-in dictation processes your audio to turn it into text — see section 5)
• AppsFlyer (attribution and marketing campaign measurement)
• Meta / Facebook (advertising attribution for campaigns we run)
• Analytics providers (anonymous usage data)
• Law enforcement when required by law

5. Third-Party Processing (AI and Speech Recognition)

To provide emotional analysis of your journal entries, we transmit the text content of the entries you consent to analyse to OpenAI, LLC, through our own server, along with your language preference and writing style preferences collected during onboarding (used to tailor the analysis). We do not share your email, name, device identifiers, or any other personal information with OpenAI, and the text is not stored on our server.

To generate an Inner Landscape we send only the dominant emotion and the date of your recent entries to the image generator. The text of your entries is never sent for this purpose.

Voice journaling does not use a transcription service of ours. Your phone's built-in speech recognition turns speech into text. Depending on your device, Apple or Google may process the audio to do this, under their own privacy policies. The recording itself is never uploaded to us: it is saved in the app's private folder on your phone.

OpenAI processes this data solely to return emotional analysis results. Per OpenAI's API data usage policy, data submitted via the API is not used to train OpenAI models. For details, see OpenAI's API Data Usage Policies.

You can disable AI emotional analysis at any time in the app's Settings under "Privacy". If disabled, no journal content will be transmitted to OpenAI.

6. Data Security

Your entries sit behind your phone's own device encryption, and the app adds no encryption layer of its own on top of it. Everything we do send — the text you consent to analyse, your subscription status — travels over TLS. There is no cloud sync, so there is no copy of your journal on our servers to protect.

7. Children's Privacy

Kokoro Nikki is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at contact@kokoro-nikki.com.

8. Your Rights

8.1 GDPR (European Union)

If you are in the EU, you have the right to access, rectify, delete, and port your data. You may also object to processing or withdraw consent at any time.

8.2 CCPA (California)

California residents have the right to know what data is collected, request deletion, and opt out of data sales. We do not sell personal data.

8.3 How to Exercise Your Rights

Contact us at contact@kokoro-nikki.com with your request. We will respond within 30 days.

9. Data Retention

Data on your device persists until you delete it or uninstall the app. The anonymous identifier, your subscription association and the records of the Inner Landscapes generated for you are retained until you delete them from Settings or ask us to. You can request full data deletion at any time.

10. International Transfers

The data we do receive — the text you consent to analyse, the emotion and date used to compose your landscapes, your subscription status — is processed on servers located outside your country (Supabase and OpenAI, in the United States). We ensure adequate protection through standard contractual clauses and encryption in transit. Your journal itself does not travel: it stays on your device.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. We have no email address for you, so we cannot notify you any other way.

12. Regional Information

• Argentina: Protected under Law 25,326. Contact AAIP for complaints.
• Spain: Supervised by AEPD (Agencia Española de Protección de Datos).
• Mexico: Rights under INAI (Instituto Nacional de Transparencia).
