AI Emotional Analysis

Your emotions, reflected back with care

Most emotion-tracking tools reduce your inner life to a number on a scale. Kokoro Nikki takes a different approach: our AI reads what you write and gently surfaces patterns — without scoring you, ranking your day, or telling you how to feel.

What the analysis actually does

After you save a journal entry, Kokoro Nikki analyzes the emotional content using a large language model trained to recognize nuanced feeling states — not just "happy" or "sad," but the texture of tiredness behind gratitude, or the relief mixed into grief. The result is a set of emotional tags and a mood arc you can browse over days and weeks.

Warm, not clinical

We deliberately avoided the clinical vocabulary of most wellness apps. You won't see scores like "62% anxious." Instead, the app surfaces observations in the spirit of a thoughtful friend: patterns you might not have noticed, connections between what you wrote on Tuesday and how you felt on Friday.

Privacy by design

Journal text sent for AI analysis is processed securely and never used to train external models. You can disable AI analysis entirely in Settings — the rest of the app works exactly the same. Voice transcription happens 100% on-device and is never analyzed by AI unless you explicitly save the transcription as an entry.

The kintsugi timeline

Emotional patterns over time are visualized in the Kintsugi Timeline — your journey rendered as golden-repaired cracks in pottery. High-emotion days, quiet days, turning points: all visible at a glance, framed not as failures or successes but as the texture of a life being lived.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I turn off AI analysis?

Yes. Go to Settings → AI & Analysis and toggle it off. The rest of the app — entries, voice, timeline, themes — continues working normally.

Is my journal text sent to a server?

Only the text of entries you save is sent for analysis, and only when AI analysis is enabled. Audio is never sent — transcription is fully on-device.

What language models power the analysis?

Kokoro Nikki uses OpenAI's API for emotional analysis. Only journal text and your language/style preferences from onboarding are transmitted — no personal identifiers.
